The SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder – Model 6830-01 uses solid-state optical technology to measure the stage level of rivers, streams, irrigation systems, or floodgate position. The SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder is an intelligent sensor that can be programmed to accept commands and return data in the industry standard SDI-12 format.
The SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder has an internal microprocessor which allows the user to establish a variety of absolute readings. These vary in function from setting a base water level reading, determining the direction of rotation, and calculating increment size from 1 of 3 possibilities (100, 150, and 300 counts per revolution). The SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder is also capable of communicating with an SDI-12 data collection platform (DCP) or data logger while simultaneously putting out incremental pulses for data acquisition systems without SDI-12.
Range for the SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder is based on a true floating- point calculation. The SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder’s base reading may be set as high as 99999.99 for accurate, absolute measurements. Even the smallest incremental changes can be monitored by the SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder.
The SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder contains a minimum of components and only one moving part, making it an extremely reliable long-lasting product. The SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder’s shaft is mounted on precision, zero-resistance bearings for low torque and low power consumption. The SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoders are packaged in a compact, weather- resistant enclosure for mounting in a stilling well and is ideal for sites that require a minimum of space.
Note that the SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder – Model 6831-01 has the same features of the Model 6830-01, plus it has a two line LCD character display for a local readout and user interface buttons.
BATTERY BACKUP FUNCTION:
The SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder Battery Backup Option adds a Lithium-Ion Battery to maintain the sensor functions when the main 12 volt supply is being changed, interrupted, or fails. The SDI-12 Optical Shaft Encoder’s battery will last approximately 30 days after the 12 volt supply is removed.
