The Shaft Encoder – Series 6800 are used to measure the rise and fall of liquid levels in various applications including stilling wells and stored bodies of water. The Shaft Encoders are available in 2 different configurations: the Model 6800-00 Stand Alone Shaft Encoder comes packaged in a small weather- resistant enclosure for mounting in a stilling well, and the Model 6800-02 Shaft Mounted Encoder, designed to mount directly on the shaft of an existing chart or punch tape recorder.
The Shaft Encoders features a low starting torque and a resolution of 100 counts per revolution. With a 1 ft (30.5 cm) or 1.5 ft (45.7 cm) circumference pulley attached, the shaft encoder can provide 0.01 ft accuracy and resolution. The shaft encoder’s output can go directly to the Model 3500-00 Data Recorder.
Except for a solitary moving part, there are no electro-mechanical components or gears used in the Shaft Encoder’s design. This results in an extremely reliable product with a long life expectancy and low power consumption.

The Shaft Encoder is powered by a regulated 5 VDC power supply and draws a 2mA of current. The Shaft Encoder’s small size and low torque requirements make it ideal for sites which provide minimum space.
