The Model 5492-34 Camera Controller, paired with a compatible High Sierra Electronics Model 3580 or Model 3582 Series Hydromet Controller, provides camera management capabilities for both fixed and Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras. These systems are often used in High Water Detection or Road Weather Information Systems where power is limited. The camera and Camera Controller are powered by a separate solar panel and battery ensuring that a problem with the camera system or excessive use of the camera does not take down the mission critical weather monitoring system.
The Camera Controller provides the interface between the Field Controller and an external camera. This allows the camera to be turned on and off automatically on a timed interval, and on demand when needed. An integrated cellular modem provides the communications to view still images and streaming video.
Automatic and Override Modes allow for flexibility in managing the system. In Automatic Mode the Camera Controller is configured for the system to capture and transmit an image on a timed interval to the Contrail® Camera software platform. It can also be set to transmit an image on an event basis, such as a water level being met, or detected icy road conditions.
In Override Mode, the system operator can access the live camera stream at any time by issuing an Override Command from Contrail Camera software. The Field Controller relays the command to power the camera system that will allow access to the camera’s native web interface to take snapshots and watch the live stream. A PTZ camera can be installed so the user can change the camera view to the desired location.
