The Battery Maintenance System – Model 5605-00 is an intelligent, micro-controller based charge/discharge system for charging 12 Volt DC lead acid batteries with ratings of up to 40 amp hour capacity. It is used to test the ability and fully characterize a battery. The Battery Maintenance System will test and determine if the battery will accept and hold it’s specific charge prior to placing it in the field.
The discharge time is recorded and can be displayed on the Battery Maintenance System’s LED display. There is also an LED to indicate the operating mode. During a cycle, the voltage, current, or elapsed time can be displayed.
When charging, the Battery Maintenance System will limit the current to the battery according to the manufacturer’s specifications. This results in the minimum charge time for the battery.
The charging continues until the current reaches some minimum specified by the manufacturer of the battery, at which point the Battery Maintenance System breaks the connection from the battery. When discharging, a 3.75 Ohm load is connected across the battery, the voltage is monitored, and when it declines to some final value, as specified by the battery manufacturer, the Battery Maintenance System will automatically disconnect the load from the battery. Then a final charging cycle completes the sequences.
The Battery Maintenance System – Model 5605-00 is also a user friendly system with reverse battery polarity protection. If the battery cables are accidentally put on the wrong poles, the Battery Maintenance System will not start.
