The Lightning Surge Suppressors – Series 5330 are two pair (four wire) modules implementing three-stage hybrid technology. These Lightning Surge Suppressors are intended for indoor use on communication loop circuits which have been isolated from a switch telephone network. The Lightning Surge Suppressor addresses over voltage transients with gas tubes and silicon avalanche components. In addition, sneak and fault currents are mitigated by the Lightning Surge Suppressor with resettable positive temperature coefficient fuses (PTCs). The Lightning Surge Suppressor’s PTCs increase resistance several orders of magnitude when over currents exceed safe levels. A normal state resumes when over currents are removed from the Lightning Surge Suppressor. The ability to self restore in this manner significantly increases the Lightning Surge Suppressor’s performance and survivability. Troubleshooting the Lightning Surge Suppressor – Model 5330 is easily performed by unplugging and plugging in a spare to check.
The Lightning Surge Suppressor’s card edge module is gold-plated, double sided and designed to mate with the gold-plated female terminal connector. When snapped together the data circuits “pass thru” the Lightning Surge Suppressor in a serial fashion from the four “Field Side” terminals to the four “Electronics Side” terminals. Terminals 1 or 10 of the Lightning Surge Suppressor must be attached to Building-Approved ground (preferably AC power safety ground).
Caution: The hybrid design of this product includes series resistance. Do not place this product in service on any signal line capable of supplying more than 150 mA continuously. Do not daisy chain grounds. The Lightning Surge Suppressor is not intended for shield termination.
